The Pursuit of Freedom
The development of plot and story in both Indecent and “…Vengeance” is defined by the determination of the characters in both narratives to obtain freedom. A range of freedoms become the focus of a range of characters, as artists pursue artistic freedom and persons with same-sex attractions pursue the freedom to engage with those whom they love. Meanwhile, persons of different faiths pursue the freedom to practice their faith in the way they feel expresses their truth. But while there is significant variation between the types of freedoms being pursued and the ways in which different characters engage in the chase, there is a clear sense that the ideal of experiencing freedom is a universal truth that transcends the specific circumstances of the characters, and is ultimately a core need for humanity in general.
