Summary

The action is continuous, the previous scene flowing into the new one.

The next scene is titled “1920, Ellis Island: An Impossibly Long Line.” Asch meets him, their conversation revealing that “… Vengeance” is about to be performed at the Bowery Theatre, and that Asch managed to manipulate the system so that Lemml could get into the country, in spite of so many people being turned away. Lemml talks about how the people in his small hometown could not believe it when Asch sent for him, and about how his life has changed. Asch says he is looking forward to seeing Lemml’s face when he sees America.
