Summary

Chapter 29 is titled “The Whore.” Jacob did not see the value of college and was furious when Bobi rented an apartment in town so she could finish college. Bobi said he could stay with them whenever he wanted and pledged they would return to the holler in Rockcastle County when she earned her degree. Jacob often did not show up to keep the baby and Bobi took him to class and to meetings. Bobi became determined not to argue with Jacob while the baby was present. Jacob watched the baby while Bobi went to a party with friends on Halloween, then berated her for being a bad mother. At one point, Jacob accused Bobi of being lesbian.
