Summary

Pages 41-43 - Raami and her family arrived at their weekend home at Mango Corner. They were not there long when Khmer Rouge Soldiers arrived at the river outside the house to send boats of families down the river. Papa told Raami a story about how the course of the river reverses itself, and that one day she, too, would be returned home.

Pages 44-50 - The family stayed at Mango Corner. They put their things around the house, and despite their unease with the soldiers, settled in. Raami took a nap, and when she woke, she was disoriented about time and space and disturbed by the day’s events. In the kitchen, the women were sorting the food they had taken from the city.
