Summary

Part IV opens in the forest, before the main events of the novel. The opening retells the story from the dedication: Giovanni Lawson comes across a brick building in the forest. However, the story is revised to tell the truth. Instead of a human couple dropping off Vic, the narrative describes Gio creating Victor using the ovum from the Blue Fairy. Then the narrative switches back to the present day. The group returns to the forest where the house Vic grew up in has been burnt down. They take sentimental and useful items from the house but decide to fly north to the plains to build a new home. They use the Terrible Dogfish as a shelter while building a new house during the winter snow.
