Code of Chivalry

Alanna and her fellow squires and knights all adhere to the Code of Chivalry, which is a code that governs the behavior of honorable men.

When Alanna is kidnapped by Dukes Jemis and Hilam of Tusaine, she sees that they do not follow the Code of Chivalry. Even their own knights balk at being asked to fight the war in a less than honorable way. The Dukes break the Code when they kidnap Alanna and other squires and then want to torture them for information.

Alanna and her friends try to always tell the truth and to show kindness and compassion to others. This is apparent when they work in the healer's tent during the battle. Even Prince Jonathan goes into the healer tents and heals the wounded.
