Summary

Chapter 7 is titled “Fort Robinson.” Jimmy and Nyles spend a night in a motel in Casper, Wyoming, before traveling east on Interstate 25 to Highway 20 and back into Nebraska. Nyles stops at a scenic overlook and picks up the story. The Lakota struggled through the winter after the Greasy Grass Fight. Soldiers attacked once. There was little food and ammunition. Sitting Bull took his people into Canada leaving Crazy Horse as the only band resisting the reservation. Crazy Horse and the elders felt it was more important to protect the old people, women, and children, and agreed to surrender. They arrived in Nebraska near where Jimmy and Nyles are standing.
