Summary
In Chapter 33, Tracy waits outside Eric's house. He soon leaves and Tracy follows as he goes to his father's home. Eric parks behind the Dodge Durango he had bought his father as a Christmas gift. It would usually be considered an extravagant gift, but Eric had spent his entire adult life believing that his father saved him from prison. Until Tracy revealed that Kimi was alive when she went into the river, Eric had believed he killed her. Ron, now 82 but still fit, asks why Eric is there. Eric's first words are “What did you do?” (Location 4261).
The novel reverts to Saturday, November 6, 1976. Ron arrives at the clearing. Eric had arrived home a short time earlier, “gibbering about needing to call the police” (Location 4267). Ron had forced Eric to calm down and explain. All Ron could think of was that this moment was...
