Summary
In Chapter 22, Yeonmi applied to college at Dongguk University. The professors who interviewed Yeonmi knew that she was not ready for college, but she pointed out how much she had learned in the short amount of time she had been in South Korea. She noted she had also learned lessons from living life. When she was accepted to the school, it was proof that someone finally believed in her.
At about this same time, even though Yeonmi and her mother did not want to advertise their pasts, Yeonmi agreed to participate in a television documentary about defectors from North Korea. She agreed only because the producer suggested her appearance might help her locate her sister.
