Summary
Tyler recovers from his wound and the crew’s bonds strengthen in Chapter 6. The garden thrives, entering hyper-growth. K believes the ship’s acceleration drives the hyper-growth of the algae. Leigh believes it might be the most important discovery of the mission and downplays what she sees in her messages back to earth. The crew makes their first harvest of algae and eats together to celebrate. K discovers they have eaten a quarter of their food supplies, meaning they will have to ration meals. To compensate, Leigh seeds more packets of algae and they begin to use it as a primary food source. Communication with control gets even more difficult, as messages are distorted and hard to make out. Their bodies have adapted to their environment as they approach the heliopause, the frontier where the sun’s influence is no longer felt...
