Summary
In Chapter 12 Uria takes Leigh to the Goldstone Observatory to make several more revelations about their project. First, she shows Leigh how extreme heat affects the readings of the antenna and dishes in the desert and that the telescopes picked up information that was initially thought to be an error, but later turned out to be from NASA’s Voyager 1. It contained the same 19-digit number repeated 3,042 times, which was Voyager’s estimated current coordinates. Even though it no longer transmits data back to earth, some people believe Voyager might still be exploring the universe on its own. The scientists in the novel have found Voyager, but located it much, much farther than it should be: In the inner rim of the Oort Cloud.
