Summary
Helena, Leigh’s sister in Jakarta, calls and informs her that her mother fell more than a week before and is suffering a mental decline, her symptoms resembling the early stages of dementia. Helena explains that their mother requested Leigh not be bothered until afterward because of the importance of her work at the Institute. Neither Helena or Leigh can go home to care for their mother. Instead, they agree to call her more often.
Everything in the lab appears to be going smoothly until Leigh receives an email from one of her lab managers headed “gene induction date” in Chapter 7. He tells Leigh the order to transplant the gene came from Uria, her supervisor, and he is surprised she was not told.
