Chapter 16 Summary
Chapter sixteen opens with yet one more homicide. This time it is a mid-level drug dealer who appears to live in the run-down neighborhood where he is found. The MO of the murder is the same, including facial beating and disfiguring the corpse beyond recognition. His live-in girlfriend identifies him after she screams into the crime scene. Eve has to knock the woman out to prevent her from contaminating the scene. The murder weapon is found just yards from the body, causing Eve to believe that the murderer is toying with them. Roarke watches Eve as she processes the crime and the scene. He realizes that in spite of the wounds she experienced in her youth, she is healing on her own. She does not need his help to heal, merely his acceptance of who she is. The latest murder, however, does appear...
