Summary
Kailash begins to work as Ehsaan’s teaching assistant in 1991. As part of this job, Kailash reads and compiles notes on papers related to Ehsaan’s 1970 trial. Kailash notes that in some newspaper clippings journalists reported xenophobic sentiments that people held against Ehsaan. Two of the defendants were a man and a woman who were secretly in love. Following their acquittal, they married and had children. The narrative then abruptly shifts forward to 2009. Kailash visits one of said defendants and learns that her husband is now deceased. Kailash reflects upon the burgeoning refugee crisis that has been caused by events such as the Syrian Civil War. The narrative then shifts back to 1991.
