Mill Grove

Mill Grove is a small town in the middle of Pennsylvania. It is relatively isolated from the rest of the world, with only one main route going in and out. This makes it the perfect setting for the Devil to wage his war on humanity. Isolation is a major theme in the book, so the isolation of the main setting itself reinforces how easy it is for evil to manipulate and overpower people when they are working alone. This becomes especially true when the Nice Man starts invading the minds of the residents of Mill Grove, and they quite literally cannot escape because the highway route out of town is blocked by immense amounts of traffic.

This isolation actually encourages those left in Mill Grove to form tighter bonds. Kate, the sheriff, Ambrose and Christopher, four of the key players in the Nice Mna's plot, work alone...
