Summary

In Chapter 51, the sheriff returns to the Mission Street Woods hoping to find clues connected to David Olson’s murder. The security guard at the Collins Construction Project reports the discovery of tools dating back to the 17th century; the sheriff arrives in the clearing where David was buried and feels like he is beginning to put all the clues together when he hears crying coming from the treehouse.

Chapter 52 begins with the sheriff climbing to the treehouse, until he remembers how Ambrose Olson was tricked by the recording of a crying baby and his intuition tells him to retreat. But then the crying transforms into the voice of the girl with the painted nails calling for “Daddy”, which is the name she called the sheriff before she died.
