Georgia is the 16-year-old protagonist and narrator of the novel. She grows up with a single mother who works as a maid at Aspera. She has an older half-brother, Tyler. At 13, she gets mad at her mom for not letting her go to Nora James’s birthday party because she has a huge crush on Nora. Georgia runs away and finds herself walking on the road to Aspera. Her mother’s boss and the owner of Aspera, Matthew Hayes, pulls up on the side of the road and picks Georgia up, then drives her home. During the drive, Matthew tells Georgia she is beautiful and says she should come work as an Aspera Girl when she is old enough.
