Summary
After leaving the theater where he was supposed to meet Marcel Avellaneda, Miguel decides to get food in a canteen next to the theater. There, a police officer advises him to go home because “something bad is going to happen tonight” (246). He goes back to his hotel, and has to bribe a soldier to let the taxi go through a roadblock.
An excerpt from Crispin’s writing describes someone he met while he was a guerrilla soldier. In the present, Miguel goes to a club and sees Sadie there. Sadie says that her parents did not want her to go out because of a coming typhoon, but Miguel is unaware of what she is talking about. At the club, Miguel sees old friends who knew his grandfather. Sadie asks Miguel to take her to New York, and Miguel encourages her to finish college first...
