Summary
The chapter begins with one of Crispin’s poems and a continuation of the joke about Erning Isip. Miguel’s first person perspective describes his breakup with Madison. In the present, the morning after Miguel's dinner with Sadie’s family, Sadie does not reply to his calls. As he considers his dinner with Sadie, Miguel runs to catch the bus to meet Miss Florentina.
An excerpt from Miguel’s biography of Crispin follows, describing Crispin’s relationship with Gigi Mitterand. This is followed by an excerpt from the Europa Quartet describing Sadie, a clear parallel to Gigi. In the main plot, Miguel watches a white Western environmentalist get swindled by Filipino street children. A third person narration follows, describing Miguel remembering his nightmare from the previous night, wherein he dies “a simple, everyday death” before he has the chance to “make things right” (220).
