Summary
In this chapter, Miguel spends a night in Manila waiting for his transferring flight to Bacolod. The chapter opens with Miguel admitting that his story about his seatmate on the plane making money to bring to his family was his own creation. Miguel then promises the reader that he will tell the truth exclusively.
Miguel reflects on the development of his relationship with Crispin as they get to know each other. The chapter then uses excerpts from various other sources to illustrate Miguel’s past or other themes. The reader learns that after the estrangement of Miguel and his grandfather, Miguel’s grandmother became a politician even though she wanted Miguel to go into politics instead. The chapter also includes a continuation of the joke from Chapter 1 about the three boys from three different universities, and another excerpt from Manila Noir.
