Point of View
Since the novel is divided into hundreds of documents of various lengths, there is no traditional point-of-view. Instead, the author provides the reader with two possibilities. First, they can imagine themselves reading through the eyes of Director Leanne who, while involved in the decision to attack Kerenza, is learning about the events through the documents themselves. However, after Kady announces she will release the documents for the world to see, there is also the implication that the reader is a stand-in for a citizen learning about the incident for the first time. Both work in context of the story, as it maintains the lack of connection either side has to most of the characters, while also forcing readers (and Leanne) to see the devastating impact of BeiTech’s actions.
