Summary

Chapter 21 opens on Sunday morning, with Davy recounting Altschuler leaving. He hints that something happened between them the night before, but only refers to it as “what we did together last night” (1734). After Altschuler has left, Davy calls him, and they joke and talk about their plans for the day before saying they will see each other on the bus. When Davy’s mother wakes up she asks where Altschuler is and Davy tells her that he left after breakfast. The chapter ends with Davy alternately reassuring himself that there is nothing wrong with what happened with Altschuler and wondering whether there is something wrong with it.

In Chapter 22, Davy describes walking home from school with Altschuler the following Friday. They each confess to the other that they have been thinking about what happened between them. They take Fred for a walk. Later...
