Chapters 5 and 6 Summary

In chapter five, Carley finishes supper just as Kyle calls, inviting her to his room to visit for awhile. She accepts. When she arrives, she discovers Kyle is out of bed and seated in a chair. He says she "missed all the excitement" when he'd dropped his lunch tray on the floor, sending his mother into a "fit" because the nurses weren't helping Kyle eat. He says he should have waited for help but that he doesn't want to be fed. He wants to eat on his own. Kyle says the result of his mother's fit is that a therapist has been to see Kyle to start helping him survive without his eyesight. Kyle offers Carley a chair and when he's fumbling with it, she offers to help but he insists he do it for himself.
