Summary
In the Prologue, McNamara describes finding cuff links on eBay that may have belonged to a victim of the Golden State Killer, whom she had hunted for several years. In Irvine, 1981, Drew, a police officer, investigates the murder of his brother David's wife, Manuela. He enters their single-story home in Northwood, Irvine, and tries to ignore the envy he felt for his brother's middle class luxuries. He thinks that David and Manuela both had steady jobs. She worked as a loan officer at California First Bank and he worked in sales at House of Imports, a Mercedes-Benz dealership (10).
