Summary

Christian showed Lorenzo to his hotel room, which was directly opposite Lula’s apartment. He offered to take him to Lula’s body, but Lorenzo could not face it. While on the balcony, he watched Christian reappear in the apartment over the street and keep vigil over the body. Afterwards they met downstairs in the lobby and Christian attempted to offer words of comfort. On pages 41 – 43, Christian and Anselmi exchanged angry phone calls about the funeral, which someone had wrongly assigned to a church still under construction. Christian apologized to Lorenzo and assured him the ceremony could be rearranged, but eventually he had to concede, confirming it would take place the next day at the incomplete church.

On page 45, Lorenzo remembers Lula, who suffered from insomnia, teaching him to watch for the moment when all the city lights turn off in the morning...
