Summary

In Chapter 21, Miah and Ellie run into Carlton on their way to Miah's house. Carlton excitedly introduces himself to Ellie, and Ellie immediately likes him. Inside Miah's home, Ellie is overwhelmed by how beautiful it is. Though Miah's mother is surprised Ellie is white, she does not show it, and welcomes her warmly. Miah gives Ellie a tour, kissing her in each room of the house.

In Chapter 22, as the weather gets colder, Miah and Ellie start spending more and more time at Miah's house, studying and hanging out. When Miah asks when he will meet Ellie's family, Ellie confesses she is afraid how they will respond to him being black. Miah understands because he had similar fears about Ellie being white.
