Summary
The 25-year-old narrator, Craig, recalls the story of his relationship with his wealthy, elderly neighbor, Mr. Harrigan. Craig was nine years old when he started working for him. Every holiday, Mr. Harrigan would send him a greeting card in the mail along with a lottery ticket. Craig’s dad thought it was silly to send something in the mail when they lived yards from one another, but Craig appreciated the ceremony of the cards. Mr. Harrigan was wildly wealthy and had own a conglomerate before he had retired to his mansion in the small Maine town of Harlow, and he had been a big player in the stock market.
