Amanda Hardy
Amanda was born Andrew, but as he grows up, he realizes that he is meant to be a girl. He tries to express himself through his childhood, but others around him try to convince him otherwise, such as his father and friend Marcus.
As Andrew approaches puberty, he overdoses on prescription pills. Afterward, he goes to counseling and begins attending a support group. Gradually, he becomes a girl named Amanda.
Amanda is attacked in a bathroom by one of her classmates’ father. She decides to go and live with her father and to go to a new school and start fresh. She meets Grant, and they begin dating and fall in love. She befriends Bee, the first person she tells about her past. Amanda is betrayed by Bee later in the novel.
