Summary
In Chapter 20, Virginia comes to visit Amanda. They go to a diner and catch up. Virginia tells Amanda about a man she was seeing who was okay with her being transsexual, but wanted a family, so they ended it. Virginia comments on how Amanda “won the genetic lottery when it comes to passing” (177). Amanda takes Virginia to meet Bee and introduces her as her “trans mentor” (179). The three go to a gay bar in Chattanooga and Virginia tells Amanda that she can have it all when she admits she is deserving.
Chapter 21 opens with Amanda working on a paper for school and thinking about whether she should have introduced Virginia to Dad before Virginia left. Amanda begins to write a letter to Grant, explaining her past. She gives him the envelope the next time they are together. He burns the letter without reading...
