Summary
The seventh chapter is narrated by Wonna. She is pregnant for the fourth time, and she is convinced that she is going to have another miscarriage. She wants a baby daughter horribly, but she feels as if all her babies kill themselves to avoid having her as a mother. On the way home from the doctor, she buys herself a scarf. She listens to the girls upstairs and wishes she could be friends with them. She knows that a few of them come from the orphanage at the Loring Center. Her grandmother once took her there and threatened to leave her there. Wonna wonders what her life would be like if she had grown up as an orphan.
