Poplar Holler

Poplar Holler is outside of the small town of Ginseng, Kentucky, and it is where Icy lives with Matanni and Patanni. Alternately throughout her childhood, Icy finds the empty, rural environment to be both nurturing, and also isolating. The Holler is a significant distance from the school and the town, as evidenced by Icy and Peavy being unable to meet together each week once Peavy begins the school year. Icy experiences emotional growth when she is no longer afraid of heading into the town from Poplar Holler.
