Summary
In Chapter 15, Matanni and Patanni have decided to take Icy to the Bluegrass State Hospital, several hours away from Ginseng. A friendly aide named Maizy Hurley checks Icy into the hospital. Icy is tearful as her grandparents leave, and refuses Maizy’s suggestion of playing with Rose, another patient, who has cerebral palsy. Later that day, Maizy brings dinner from the cafeteria into Icy’s room, and attempts to teach her that, out of the small group of children in their section of the hospital, with different mental disorders, none is better than another.
In Chapter 16, Icy is woken up the next morning for breakfast. She sees Maizy again, but also a nasty and unfriendly aide named Wilma. Icy is taken into the office of a child psychologist named Dr. Conroy, who has impeccably organized her office. Dr. Conroy begins to braids Icy...
