Summary
In Chapter 7, Mrs. Stilton begins to read to the class after lunch, deciding on the famous story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson. As Icy listens she begins to have a vivid and pleasant daydream. However, as Icy senses that the story is turning ominous, her daydream quickly turns dark. Icy begins to uncontrollably cry out in the class. Mrs. Stilton sends her to the school nurse, who gives Icy a Coke. Later, at home, Matanni comforts Icy by tickling her feet.
In Chapter 8, Icy prepares for another school day by dressing as blandly as possible, to avoid Mrs. Stilton’s eye. However, Mrs. Stilton compliments her appearance, and Icy compliments her in turn.
