Summary
The scene opens in Kioi’s house, where a man named Ikuua wa Nditika is packing his belongings to leave. Jezebel offers him food, but he says that he must leave because he has a long way to go. He reminds Kioi about a project that his foreign friends are pursuing to build an insecticide factory and adds that because it will “produce a lot of smelly gases,” it cannot “be built in an area where important people live”; it must instead be built in an area where people like Kiguunda live (75). He also explains to Kioi that he might want to conceal his name from the project for tax reasons and because he may not want the poor to be aware of his involvement. Kioi responds that he finds his words “very unbecoming,” and reminds Ikuua that he has refused to renew...
