Summary
Mary was certain that she was going to go to medical school after college. However, while she was at school, she realized that she did not enjoy much of her studies, and eventually decided that she wanted to write, but did not know what type of profession she could do. So, she decided to take a summer internship, mainly just happy that "out of all the applicants in the program, an employer had picked [her]" (69). Working at Arts and Citizens, Mary found herself with very little to do. She realizes that as a result of her inability to "pick a direction," she "ended up sitting in a closet for two months" (71).
