Summary
The novel is narrated in third-person present by a narrator with a close focalization on the main character, Chloe Green, a California girl who has moved to her mom’s hometown in Alabama to help take care of her grandmother and finish high school. Chloe is a high academic achiever who only has one rival for valedictorian in False Beach: Shara Wheeler, her enemy. But on the day before prom, Shara kisses Chloe in the staff elevator at Willowgrove Christian Academy and then disappears right before she could be crowned prom queen. Chloe goes to Shara Wheeler’s house during the late service at Willowgrove Christian Church and feels like punching through the window because she is angry at Shara and wants to figure out what she is up to.
