Summary

Chapter 3 is titled “Hunger.” The doctor at the clinic asks for Freya's phone number. She assumes it is because she is Nathaniel's emergency contact and it makes her feel good to formally fill that role. Everyone in her life manages her, directing her on what to do, and she relishes the idea that someone is depending on her. Then the doctor makes it clear he is hitting on her. She is even angrier than she might have been because of the contrast of the good feeling just a moment earlier. She continues to think about Hayden's prediction that she will soon be forgotten.
