Carmelita Tropicana is playing herself in this film. She introduces herself to the audience and relates to them some events about her past. In the opening scene, Carmelita is mugged as she walks to her home located on New York's lower east side just after she concluded a performance. A fight ensues in which Carmelita emerges as the victor. She suffered only a minor scratch on her arm.
