Chapters 22 and 23 Summary
When winter comes and snow blankets the ground, Henri and John train. John learns how to withstand being engulfed in flames while Sam looks on with great interest. The purpose is for John to learn how to multitask while consumed in flames. After a minute however, his lungs begin to burn. He continues, fully engulfed until he can't take any more and instinctively takes a breath, drawing the flames into his lungs. Despite that, Henri says he's done well for his first try and training for the day ends. Two nights later, John wakes to find Henri creating documents for him, this time making him old enough to drive. The name on them is James Hughes and with them he is sixteen years old.
