Summary
Finn and Lily continue driving. Then they approach the signs for the body farm. They drive onto a rutted road and towards a riverbed (161). Seeing the farm upsets Finn. He considers asking Lily “to save him a seat in heaven,” but can hear her response (162).
As they head towards the fields, Finn tries “not to cry” (163). He tells Lily he wants her “in the world” and apologizes for not giving her a reason to stay (163). He knows this is the wrong approach, but does not care. Lily is upset that he still sees himself as the host of her life. They argue. Desperate, Finn implores Lily not to leave. He wants her to see that they “belong together (164). Suddenly he proposes to her. She bursts out laughing. He begs her anyway.
They get out of the car and continue their conversation while walking...
