Poem Writer (p. 3-9)
The voice in this poem is a sensitive girl who is outraged that things have gone so terribly wrong in the world. She points to the divide between the haves and have-nots, celebrities and people who are starving. She feels girls are "...desperate for a way/ to be awake without faking / to be alive without freaking" and they resort to anorexia, altering bodies, cutting, twittering, depression, pills. She sees the hypocrisy in society and the injustice all around. She knows something must chance, and she is smart enough, and brave enough, to take a stand.
Wendy
Wendy is a girl who was in the popular group, but choses to leave of her own accord. The popular girls dislike her now because of it. When the narrator of the story is ejected from the group, Wendy takes her in and cares for her.
