Summary

The final section is titled "Aftermath." In Chapter 26, they sneak back in, put on dry clothes, and take their places on pallets on the floor. Andre challenges Tilla to say she did not have a good time. Tilla says Andre has been the “best part of my summer” (331). Andre pledges to visit, saying Tilla can show him the shopping malls. She promises. Andre says he has never had a best friend until Tilla. She feels the same. For the next two days, the storm continues. When the sun finally appears, they begin to survey the damage. Tilla cringes at the debris and realizes that most of the family members see her like the hurricane – ripping through their lives and leaving a mess to clean up.
