Summary

In Chapter 13, Tilla goes to Diana's house. There is very little furniture inside. They sit “in the dark on the cold tiled floor” (185) to watch a news cast about a tropical storm. Diana and Zory talk about attending school in town. Zory says Diana only mentions the positive points and that the girls are snotty. Diana says she and Hessan are planning to make their reunion “official” at the dance the following night. Tilla asks why they broke up. Zory says Diana wanted to clear the way to marry a rich man from Kingston. Diana says “I jus' didn't want to limit my options when I went away to school” (188) but adds she always knew she would marry Hessan. The conversation hops to other subjects.
