Summary
Chapter VI follows Brando, as he is interrogated about the Witch’s murder and supposed riches. He is beaten and tortured nearly to death by the police and a man named Rigorito, and then thrown into a prison cell. Brando did not find any money in the Witch’s house, but he did tell the police about a locked room he could not get open.
Brando does not feel any guilt over the Witch’s death, saying she deserved it “for being a dirty fag” (156). He also claims Luismi was the one who stabbed her, not him. Brando reveals that he caused a fight between Luismi and the Witch, as the Witch lent Luismi some money that Brando secretly stole.
