French Dusome
Sometimes called Frenchie, he is a 17-year-old Native American boy when this novel opens. His real name is Francis, and he is the son of a man named Jean who serves on the council of a Native American group. His mother apparently died years earlier. His older brother is Mitch. French has assumed Mitch to be dead for the past seven years, but he is surprised when he finds Mitch is working with the government agency capturing Native Americans.
French is strong, loyal, and brave, but he is also young and sometimes acts without thinking. When French is being held in the government facility, he focuses on the hope that he can escape.
