Point of View

The point of view in Hummingbird Salamander is that of a woman who calls herself Jane Smith, but that is not her real name. Jane is an extremely skeptical cybersecurity analyst, and opts to keep her name, and the names of people close to her, a secret. While at first, this point of view appears to be influenced by a woman who knows too much about technology's ability to track and gather data, as the novel progresses, this skepticism comes off as if Jane is slightly unhinged.

The narrator speaks in a very mysterious tone, and see the world as a giant mystery that needs to be solved. As the audience learns more about Jane and her troubled childhood, they begin to understand her desire to escape and become someone she is not.
