Jane

Jane is the protagonist of the novel but that is not her real name. At the beginning of the novel, Jane is given a cryptic note from Silvina along with a taxidermied hummingbird. Jane worked in cybersecurity, and used her company's resources to find out that Silvina was an eco-terrorist who was responsible for bombings in South America against wildlife traffickers. Despite warning signs at every turn, Jane followed the leads to find out why this unknown woman had given her the note in the first place.

Jane was married with a daughter, however, due to her abusive childhood, her focus and attention was never really on her family. Jane had a history of cheating on her husband at conferences, and she had an interesting relation to her life at home. Jane missed important motherly duties, such as attending her daughter's talent show, while she searched for Silvina...
