Summary
In [68], a few months after escaping from Silvina's apartment, Jane sat in pain alone at a dive bar. She had lost her family and fled somewhere down the coast looking for answers. In [69], she asked herself, despite how unfamiliar her life seemed, "did it seem more authentic than my life before" (225)? She also wondered by Langer had tried to kill her despite her supporting Silvina.
In [70], Jane woke up on the side of a road near a creek after passing out from the pain of her lasting injuries. With her burner phone, she tried calling her husband, Charlie, and Allie. Only Allie picked up, and at that moment Jane realized she "had no one. Except Silvina, in a perverse way" (229). After sleeping in her car for months, she found Silvina's houseboat that she mentioned in her journal.
