Jolene's mascara
Before Robin leaves her family’s home for good, she grabs her mother, Jolene’s, mascara tube. It was the last thing her mother touched before her parents left the house for a work party. Robin keeps the mascara tube either on her person or in a secret compartment in one of the cupboards of Edith’s dressing table. The mascara symbolizes a tangible link between Robin and her mother, and is emphasized in importance due to the fact that it is the last remaining thing of Jolene’s that Robin will ever have. It could also symbolize the loss Robin feels at having lost her mother without having been the perfect daughter. It is her attempt at holding onto the past, and the memory of her parents.
