Summary
Chapter 11 sees Robin and Edith go back to Edith’s apartment where Robin will be living from now on. She and Edith reach a tacit understanding that if they do not focus on or talk about the tragedy that has occurred, neither one of them will have to sink into an emotional chasm. Robin describes Edith’s apartment and how there are photographs and travel memorabilia everywhere. The reader is introduced to Edith’s pet African grey parrot called Elvis who has learned a range of Elvis Presley lyrics. Robin asks if she can play with him but Edith suggests she plays with Cat instead. This marks the start of the charade of Cat being continued as a coping mechanism for Robin. The small gesture of kindness warms Robin’s heart.
